How Lets3dPrint compares

There are great CAD apps for engineers and great toys for first steps. Lets3dPrint sits between them: exact, editable solids like professional CAD, with the printing details built into the tools, no account, and a price made for a hobby.

Eleven things the others do not have at all

Side by side with the six Mac App Store apps closest to Lets3dPrint. Each row is a tool that is built in here, with one click and a preview, and that none of them offers in any form.

Texture that becomes real faces and edges Knurl, weave, wood and 13 more patterns on exact solids; each knurl facet a real face you can fillet, sketch on and export to STEP
Waves from drops Click where drops fall on any surface; rings run over it and add up where they meet
Lampshades and vases from lines A profile and a path formula: lines wind over the shape, cross into a net and print as one solid
Smart objects sized by their place One part placed over a face, a grid or points; a formula of x, y, z sizes each copy; edit it once, all follow
Spreadsheet to solid A CSV becomes bars, a surface or columns on a plinth, ready to print
Split with locks that print Joint Split cuts a big part into pieces that lock with jigsaw or dovetail joints, with the clearance your printer needs
Twist locks: push and turn A bayonet joint on any cut: lugs, slots, a groove and a click, made for printing
Your timeline as a script with sliders Every step as readable text; numbers become sliders; loops and formulas build what clicking cannot
Formulas and gyroids as solids A height formula z = f(x, y) or a shape f(x, y, z), gyroids included, as a solid you keep editing
Real terrain from height data Height maps, GeoTIFF and SRTM tiles, or generated hills, as a printable solid
Print fixes as design steps Teardrop tops for sideways holes, bridge layers in counterbores, brim ears on sharp corners, a chamfer on the bed edge

Checked against each app's Mac App Store listing, website and help pages as of October 2026. "Not offered" means there is no tool for it; anything can be modelled by hand, piece by piece, in a CAD app. Outside the App Store, Autodesk Fusion has image textures for mesh bodies (Texture Extrude), and Fusion, Onshape and FreeCAD reach some of these through add-ins and scripts. Apps and their features change. Shapr3D, OpenShape3D, Part3D, Quick3DModeling, 3D Print Designer CAD and Forma3D are trademarks of their owners, named only for comparison.

CAD made for the printer, not for the factory

When to pick something else

If you need assemblies with moving joints, 2D drawings for a machine shop, CAM or simulation, professional CAD does that and Lets3dPrint does not try to. If you want to build with blocks with a child in a browser, Tinkercad is lovely. Lets3dPrint is for the part in between: the bracket, the enclosure, the knob, the map, the thing that has to fit and has to print.
